Mother´s Day

Mother’s Day is a holiday honoring motherhood that is
observed in different forms throughout the world.

This day most commonly falls on the first Sunday in May and traditionally involves presenting mothers with flowers, cards and other gifts.

Year 1 students at our school have been working on a craft which involves different and varied skills such as painting, cutting or glueing.

The materials needed for the craft involve mainly disposable materials like toilet rolls; which offer endless possibilities when doing crafts. Working with recyclable items is a good way to preserve the environment and can be used to teach the children the need for it.

The steps you may follow in order to create the craft are those fully explained below:

1.    The first thing you should do to make flowers with rolls of toilet paper will be painting the roll with some paint.

2.    Then you will crush the cardboard tube and draw lines on it, all of the same width, about 1 cm.

3.    Next, cut the toilet paper tube by the drawn lines with the help of scissors.

4.    You will need 5 strips of cardboard to make each flower.

5.    The next step is to assemble the strips between them with a little glue stick or glue. You just have to apply it on one side.

6.    Go sticking different strips on one another and put pressure on them so they are well bonded.

7.    Glue the first and last strip to acquire full flower shape; then pressing with your fingers to not release.

8.    You must shape the strips, rounded down to shape flower petals.

9.    Then, attach them to a wooden stick and add the green petal.
